How to Care for Your Leather Goods (So They Last a Lifetime)

Quality leather is an investment. With basic care, your handmade leather wallet, bag, or card holder can last decades and only get more beautiful with age. Here's our guide.

The Basics

  • Keep it dry - Leather and water aren't friends. If your piece gets wet, let it air dry naturally. Never use a hair dryer or heater.
  • Condition regularly - Every 2-3 months, apply a thin layer of leather conditioner. Rub it in, let it absorb for 15 minutes, then buff with a soft cloth.
  • Store properly - When not in use, keep leather in a breathable bag (not plastic). Stuff wallets and bags with paper to hold their shape.

What NOT to Do

  • Don't overstuff - it stretches leather permanently
  • Don't use harsh chemicals or cleaning products
  • Don't leave in direct sunlight for extended periods
  • Don't sit on your wallet - it warps the shape and stresses the stitching

Embracing the Patina

The natural darkening and softening of leather over time is called patina, and it's a sign of quality. Cheather that's coated or painted won't develop patina because the surface isn't real leather showing through.

Our genuine leather pieces develop a rich, personal character the longer you carry them. The oils from your hands, the wear patterns from daily use - it all adds up to something uniquely yours.
